Playing Time Manager

Overview

The Playing Time Manager helps recreational league coaches track mandatory playing time requirements during games. Plan your entire lineup rotation before the first pitch, track innings played in real time, and get instant alerts when a player is at risk of not meeting the league minimum.

Accessing the Playing Time Manager

Navigate to More → Lineups → Playing Time Manager. You can also access it directly from the Game Hub during an active game via the ⏱ Playing Time button in the header.

Setting Up League Rules

Before your first game tap the ⚙️ Rules button in the top right corner to configure your league requirements:

Minimum innings per player: Select 1, 2, 3, or 4 innings. This is the mandatory playing time floor set by your league.

Game length: Select 4, 5, 6, or 7 innings to match your league's standard game length.

Rules are saved automatically and persist between sessions — you only need to set them once per team.

Planning Your Lineup Rotation

The Playing Time Manager lets you plan substitutions for the entire game before it starts:

  1. All active roster players load automatically with innings played starting at 0
  2. Each player defaults to playing in every inning
  3. Tap Bench on any player to move them to the bench for the current inning
  4. Tap Play to move a benched player back into the lineup
  5. Use the inning dots at the top to navigate between innings and plan each one
  6. Each inning automatically inherits the lineup from the previous inning — only change what is different

Position Assignments

Each player card includes a position selector on the left side:

  • Tap the position dropdown to assign a fielding position for that inning
  • Position assignments carry forward to subsequent innings automatically
  • Change a position for a specific inning without affecting other innings
  • The player's primary position (blue badge) and backup position (grey badge) appear next to their name for quick reference
  • The position selector is disabled for benched players

Status Indicators

Each player card shows their current playing time status:

IconMeaning
Minimum innings requirement met
⚠️Below minimum but on track to meet it
🔴At risk — not enough innings remaining to meet minimum

The progress bar on each card fills as innings are confirmed. The counter shows innings played vs the required minimum (e.g. 1/2, 2/2).

Summary Bar

The three cards at the top of the screen show a real-time count of:

  • Met minimum — players who have already met the requirement
  • On track — players below minimum but projected to meet it
  • At risk — players who will not meet minimum based on current plan

Advancing Through Innings

When an inning ends tap the button to advance:

  1. A confirmation dialog appears — tap Confirm to record the inning as played
  2. The innings played counter increments for all players who were playing that inning
  3. The screen advances to the next inning with the previous lineup pre-loaded
  4. Tap Cancel if you tapped advance accidentally

To navigate to any inning without confirming tap the numbered dots at the top of the screen. This lets you review or adjust any inning's plan without affecting the confirmed innings count.

At Risk Warning

If a player cannot meet the minimum requirement based on remaining innings a red warning banner appears at the top of the screen listing the affected players by name. This alert fires when the number of innings needed exceeds the innings remaining — giving you time to adjust before it is too late.

End of Game Summary

When the final inning is confirmed the summary screen appears automatically showing:

  • Every player's innings played
  • Whether each player met the minimum requirement
  • Overall compliance status for the game
  • Share Summary button — exports the full playing time report via your device share sheet

You can share the summary to your team chat, email it to league administrators, or save it for your records.

Tips for Best Results

  • Set up rules before the season starts — configure minimum innings and game length once and it applies to every game
  • Plan the full rotation before first pitch — use the inning dots to map out all 6 innings during warm-ups so you are not making decisions mid-game
  • Watch the at risk banner — if it appears early in the game you still have time to adjust the plan for remaining innings
  • Use with the team chat link — if a parent asks about playing time you can share the summary directly to your group chat with one tap
  • Primary position badges help you quickly identify who can play where when making substitutions

Baseball vs Softball Positions

The position selector automatically shows the correct positions based on your team sport:

Baseball: P, C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, LF, CF, RF, DH

Softball: P, C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, LF, CF, RF, DP, FLEX
